The challenge
After the gearbox leaves the workshop for gearbox assembly it is possible that screw threads may be missing or that a broken machine tool or metal chips remain in the holes.

The solution
Edge pitch measurement with a vision system connected to an industrial network. After the gearbox-housing workshop, the gearbox housings are moving on a conveyor for assembly. They go through the inspection cell (Omron's vision system). Depending on the type of gearbox, an array of cameras inspects all screw threads around the gearbox housing. By counting edges inside the hole, we assure presence and conformity (no chips) of the screw threads.

Added value
Preventive inspection with this vision system makes manual rework redundant as the faults are detected before final housing assembly and the production line is not slowed down.
